October 14 ’20 Depart Home (or 1 to 3 days earlier for optional extensions to Chefchaouen and/or Casablanca)

October 15        Arrive Fes & meet the group over welcome drinks.

October 16        Photography instruction in the morning.

November---     Guided tour of Fes’ fascinating medieval medina throughout rest of the day. Navigate & photograph the maze!

October 17        Morning visit in “new Fes” (dating from the 14th century) followed by lunch and photo shoot with a local family.

November---     In the afternoon, visit & photograph a local artisan cooperative. Practice night photography in the medina.

October 18        Spend the day on a beautiful journey southwards through a remarkable diversity of landscapes:

November---     Visit Swiss-like Ifrane; have lunch in Midelt; descend into the Ziz Valley; arrive Erfoud, gateway to the Sahara.  

October 19        Continue by 4x4s into the Sahara Desert south of Erfoud: Visit with nomads, enjoy private lunch at an oasis.

November---     A breathtaking late afternoon awaits: sunset camel ride, dinner and overnight in private desert camp. 

October 20       Sunrise in the dunes; continue exploring the Desert in the morning, then head westward:

November---     Walk in the striking Todra Gorge in the afternoon, and continue into the beautiful Dades Valley.

October 21       Leisure time in the morning to review photos, relax, or meet with David for one-on-one photo feedback.

November---     Lunch at a Berber home in the Dades Valley; tour the imposing 11th century Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou.

October 22        Cross the beautiful High Atlas Mountains en route to Marrakech.

November---     Late afternoon walk in the Marrakech to magical Djemma el Fna Square at dusk.

October 23       Guided tour through Marrakech’s ancient medina throughout the day, including the souks and artisan areas.

November---     Visit the the Photography Museum, meeting the Director; enjoy lunch on the rooftop. Djemma el Fna again.

October 24       Morning visit to historic Marrakech monuments (Bahia Palace, Koutoubia Mosque) & a spice shop.

November---     Afternoon options for leisure time back in Marrakech. Farewell Dinner at a stunning riad nearby.

October 25       Return Home  (or two days later for optional 2-night extension to Essaouira)

  2. The only requirement is that you have a camera you can put in Manual Mode (i.e. control the shutter speed & aperture)

Otherwise, the group is small enough (limited to 12 participants) that we can cater to varying degrees of experience with photography. David Wells, our professional photographer and Open Sky’s Temu Nana—a photographer himself—will be with the group throughout the program providing individual hands-on guidance and instruction.
